Turn Black Friday and Christmas into 2027 recurring revenue with memberships

Every attraction knows the feeling. A strong summer, a busy half-term, then a long stretch where revenue depends on the weather and last-minute bookings.
Memberships change that pattern. A visitor who buys a membership pays once or monthly and keeps coming back. With auto-renewal, they stay with you into next year without a new campaign to win them back.
The best time to sell them is right now! Black Friday and Christmas are when people actively look for deals and gifts, and a membership is both.
Why recurring revenue matters for attractions
A day ticket is a single transaction. A membership is a relationship that pays out across the year. That shift gives you something most attractions rarely have: predictability. When a share of next year's revenue is already committed in December, you can plan staffing, events, and investment with more confidence.
- Steadier cash flow: Revenue arrives across the year, not only in peak months.
- Better forecasting: A known base of members makes budgeting less of a guess.
- A loyal core drives most visits: In a study of 60 loyalty programmes at cafés, restaurants and salons, the most loyal fifth of members made around two-thirds of all member visits (Rewardly, 2026). Every return visit is another chance to sell food, retail, and add-ons.
Auto-renewal keeps members without extra marketing spend
Winning a new visitor costs time and budget. Keeping one you already have costs far less.
With auto-renewal, a member who joins this Christmas renews automatically for 2027. Your marketing team doesn't need to run a new acquisition campaign to win them back. They can focus on welcoming members and giving them reasons to visit.
Renewals become the default, not a fresh sale each year. That matters: across cultural attractions, only around half of first-year members renew (IMPACTS via Colleen Dilenschneider). Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, which moved members to monthly payments, keeps around 80% of them (American Alliance of Museums).
Monthly instalments open the door to new visitors
An annual pass is great value, but the upfront price stops many families from buying one. Spreading that price into monthly instalments makes it feel like a small, regular cost instead of one big decision.
That opens memberships to visitors who would never pay the full amount in one go: same product, same price, a much wider audience.
New this quarter: more ways to grow and keep your members
This quarter we made the Convious membership flow more flexible. Three improvements are now live:
-
Multi-year memberships: offer a two-year membership billed annually, for example at a lower yearly price in exchange for a longer commitment. You set it up in your Control Panel, and visitors see the term, billing schedule, and renewal conditions clearly before they buy. Two years of committed revenue from one sale.
-
Upsells in the membership checkout: offer parking, donations, or vouchers during a membership purchase, so every new member sees your extras at the moment they are most engaged.
-
Pay by PayPal, also for renewals: members can pay with PayPal for both their first purchase and automatic renewals, bringing one of Europe's most popular payment methods to your membership flow.
Why Black Friday and Christmas are the moment to launch
Visitors are already in buying mode. They are looking for deals, planning next year, and searching for gifts that feel meaningful.
What is recurring revenue for an attraction?
Income that repeats on a schedule, such as monthly membership payments or annual renewals, instead of one-off ticket sales.
When should attractions start selling next year's memberships?
Black Friday and Christmas, when visitors are looking for deals and gifts and planning the year ahead.
Do monthly instalments lower revenue?
No. The total price stays the same; it is spread over the year, which makes the membership affordable for more visitors.
Can members renew with PayPal?
Yes. On Convious, PayPal works for both first payments and automatic renewals.
